Still in school studying for her A-level exams, 18 year old starlet Lauren Aquilina is also juggling a full time music career. The self-titled sass queen has been song writing since she was just nine years old! Through grass roots fan base building Aquilina now has over two million YouTube views and thousands of devoting fans her ‘Aquisluts’. We caught up with Lauren to talk festivals, duets, artwork and more…

AQUILINA ON MUSIC

I don’t think there was a specific point I realised I wanted to be a musician, I always loved music for as long as I can remember. I started learning piano and writing songs when I was eight or nine, so that was a key moment.

I can definitely see similarities between myself and Ellie Goulding, Annie Lennox and even Justin Vernon from Bon Iver. All for very different reasons!

Ellie Goulding, Annie Lennox and Justin Vernon have been huge inspirations but I’m inspired by everything.

AQUILINA ON VENUES

I did my first gig at The Bedford in London I was warmly welcomed. I’ve played there a few times since, it’ll always have a place in my heart. London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire is my favorite venue. I’d be honored to play there, if I ever sold it out I’d die a happy women.

Recently the best band I’ve seen live are Bastille. I saw them at iTunes festival. They’re great!

I always knew I wanted the artwork to be very surreal and intriguing. Fools EP artwork was inspired by a photo the photographer had taken before. That’s a theme you’ll see continued in all my future cover arts.

If I could duet with anyone it would have to be Chris Martin from Coldplay!

AQUILINA ON GIGS

Outside of the UK i’ve been lucky enough to play shows in Norway and Ireland. This year I habe shows planned in Ireland, Malta and New York which I’m very excited about.

AQUILINA ON FESTIVALS

I’m excited for all of them! Particularly Barn On The Farm, as all of my friends are on the line up too! It’s going to be a lot of fun.

AQUILINA ON ACHIEVMENT

My biggest accomplishments so far has to be self-releasing my debut EP, seeing it chart in multiple countries and hearing people sing back my lyrics on tour.

AQUILINA ON THE FUTURE

Hopefully a new EP this summer and bring on my September headline tour!
