Gigslutz Urban: Fresh This Week (15.5.15)

Like a monsoon of music on a hot summers day, our Fresh This Week list is here once again to quench your thirst for some brand new, hot tunes. As always, the playist was put together by our Urban Music Editor Matt Tarr and this week is a little bit US-heavy with a number of tracks coming from artists based across the Atlantic. Wherever they’re from though, this playlist always features great tracks, so make sure you get these into your ears asap…

Krept & Konan ft. Jeremih ‘Freak Of The Week’

There was only ever one way to start the list off this week. With Krept & Konan’s debut album scheduled for release in July, the excitement around the project is building day by day and now they’ve released the visuals for this mega track featuring the vocal talents of US singer Jeremih, fans will be anticipating the release more so now than ever before. Paige Young ft. Chip ‘All The Way’

Co-written by US hit writer Kalenna Harper, (formally one-third of Diddy’s ‘Dirty Money’), ‘All The Way’ is the product of 21 year old Paige’s dedication to her singing and song writing craft, having performed relentlessly around the UK. She said, “My goal is to fly the flag high for my city. I want to show the world that London has an edge like no other city and I’m just excited for what is to come” and after this track, we’re excited to see what’s next too! George The Poet ‘Search Party’

“As long as you wanna be courageous, I promise you we’re gonna see some changes” is the hook that flows throughout this politically charged offering from George The Poet. Discussing the manifesto for his Search Party, George discusses topics ranging from education to unemployment and we’re pretty sure that he’d do pretty well in an election with this kind of attitude. Nao ‘Zillionaire’

London based artist Nao shared her EP February 15 recently and ‘Zilliponaire’ was a standout track from it. The futuristic electro beat combined with her fresh vocals ensure that this is a track that will not be easily forgotten. We also like Nao’s optimism about being ‘richer than a millionaire’ and would like to wish her all the best in achieving that. Follow on Twitter and Facebook.

A$AP Rocky ft. Rod Stewart, Miguel and Mark Ronson ‘Everyday’

When A$AP Rocky shares a track that features Rod Stewart, you know it’s gonna be absolutley huge and ‘Everyday’ is exactly as huge as we knew it would be. With additional vocal input from Miguel and production from Mark Ronson, ‘Everyday’ is a laid back anthem and it continues hip hop’s current fashion of rappers teaming up with British singers over the age of 70 (see Kanye x Paul McCartney). Snoop Dogg ft Gwen Stefani ‘Run Away’

The D-O-double-G has just released his latest album Bush and he is back to his old weed smoking, gangster self, rather than his Rastafarian alias of Snoop Lion. ‘Run Away’ is an album track that is 100% great enough to be released as a single; whether or not it will be remains to be seen, but we’re loving it regardless. Yonas Michael ‘South Pacific’

Formerly known as Y-O of Hip Hop duo U-N-I (2008 MTV Video Music Award winners for Best LA Breakout Artist), Yonas Michael has always renounced the norm. A follow-up to his single ‘Blessed’, Yonas has shared new track, ‘South Pacific’. Combining experimental-electro beats with straight rap verses, the track is insanely catchy and is an exciting insight into Yonas’ forthcoming album. Follow on Twitter and Facebook.

Charles Hamilton ft. Rita Ora ‘New York Raining’

Apparantly if we watched US hit TV show ‘Empire’ we’d have known about this song about a month ago. But we don’t, so we’re just discovering it now. US rapper Charles Hamilton, whose debut album is set to be released in September, has teamed up with UK export Rita Ora for this upbeat piano-heavy track. Follow on Twitter and Facebook.

Cadenza ft. Stylo G & Busy Signal ‘Foundation’

Set to be released just before carnival in August, 25-year-old Oliver Rodigan aka Cadenza has teamed up with Busy Signal and Stylo G for the hugely catchy ‘Foundation’. The track samples the seminal ‘Real Rock’ riddim performed by Sound Dimension and was originally produced by Coxsone Dodd back in 1967. It was considered to be his crowning achievement, with the original having been vocalled by every dancehall heavyweight through the generations. This 2015 refix has got us yearning for some sun, sea and sand, so Cadenza has obviously done a good job! Follow on Twitter and Facebook.

Raekwon ft. Snoop Dogg ‘1,2 1,2’

Having released his album F.I.L.A recently and stopped by to have a chat with us about it, The Chef has returned with a video for his track ‘1,2 1,2’ which features Snoop Dogg. The beat on this one is the hardest instrumental we’ve heard in a long, long time and both these rap legends do it justice with their respective verses. With Wu-Tang playing all over the UK this Summer, prepare to hear this a lot more throughout 2015. Follow on Twitter and Facebook.

Grandmaster’s Furious 5 – Melle Mel and Scorpio ‘The Message 2015’

“Don’t push me cos I’m close to the edge…” – we all know the lyrics and now we all know the truth behind the creation of one of the biggest and most well known hip hop tracks of all time. The track begins at 2 mins 5 secs. Follow on Twitter.
