Gigslutz Urban: Fresh This Week (3.4.15)

With so much music out there to get your ears around, we thought we’d put together a little weekly package to introduce you to some of the tunes that we think you need to hear this week. Our ‘Fresh This Week’ list will be compiled by our Urban Music Editor Matt Tarr and will be published every Friday, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled and check back each week to listen to the latest and greatest tracks that we’re recommending from the world of underground Urban music…

Roots Manuva – ‘Facety 2:11’

Rodney Smith aka Roots Manuva is arguably one of the greatest rappers ever to emerge from British shores and after two years locked in the studio he has returned with a stunning single ‘Facety 2:11‘, produced by fellow UK maverick Four Tet. Facety is patois slang for someone being rude – a barefaced cheek, referenced by the insistent, cockney rhyming lyrical snip ‘boat race’ that makes up the chorus. Follow on Twitter and Facebook.

J Warner – ‘Do or Die’

Taken from his forthcoming EP EST 1990, talented vocalist J Warner has shared ‘Do Or Die’, a powerfully hard-hitting track, as the follow up to the Wretch 32 featuring ‘Chill Chase’. The Disturbing London affiliated artist, who has written for the likes of Tinie Tempah, Sasha Keable and even JLS, is now proving what a talent he is on the mic himself and this latest effort will do his reputation no damage at all. Lady Lykez – ‘Don’t Care’

One of the most exciting female UK artists is back following her hugely talked about track ‘Nobody Can’, on which she called out almost every male MC/rapper in the scene. Bringing a bouncy lyrical assault with her brand new single ‘Don’t Care’, produced by super duo Zdot and Krunchie, ‘Don’t Care’ follows the same lines as ‘Nobody Can’ and sees Lady Lykez claim that ‘on mic, she’s a G.O.D’. Clipstar – ‘Prosper’

As part of the London “New Gen” movement – a collective of rappers exploring their music by their own rules, away from the preconceived perceptions of what UK rap is – Clipstar have shared the brilliantly gritty ‘Prosper’. The religiously themed track follows their rise to prosperity. The Tanaka Samuel produced track is a fusion of a classic UK Rap over newer trap elements. Follow on Twitter.

Section Boyz – ‘Trapping Ain’t Dead’

As one of the first successful independent record labels within the UK urban music scene, Alwayz Recordings is set to release a compilation ‘Concrete Jungle’ which will feature some of the most recognisable names in the UK scene. The first track which has been shared from the project is this one and Section Boyz have absolutely smashed it. ‘Trapping Ain’t Dead’ sees each member of the group spray furious bars over the immensely catchy beat; what more could you ask for? Cadenza – ‘When Will I Stop Dreaming’

Sony Records’ artist Cadenza, otherwise known as Oliver Rodigan (son of the legend that is David Rodigan!) has shared his brand new track ‘When Will I Stop Dreaming’ featuring that vocal talents of Kiko Bun and Loyle Carner. Combining their fresh vocals with Cadenza’s masterful production talents has proved a winning combination as this memorable track is definitely one you’ll have on repeat. Ironik – ‘Chaos We Know (Dot Rotten Remix)’

Having recently shared his latest single ‘Chaos We Know’, Ironik has swiftly followed it up with a remix to the project by Grime star Dot Rotten. Dot’s remix adds a trappy element to the original Drum & Bass banger and adds a grittier feeling to the more polished initial production. Benjamin A.D – ‘Monster’s Ball’

After a short hiatus, South London-based alternative hip-hop artist Benjamin A.D returns with a new single, ‘Monster’s Ball’. The track addresses the fact that he took time out not only to create better music, but to get his life right, his mind right and to actually live. Produced by Toronto-based artist Junia-T, the lasting strings and horn filled beat provides Benjamin with the perfect soundtrack to re-announce himself to the UK audience and once you’ve had a listen I’m sure you’ll agree that he most definitely is back and better than ever. Deli Bricks ft Blade Brown – ‘Deadlines’

Deli Bricks drops the second video from his forthcoming explosive mixtape ‘Finnesin’ which will be available for free very soon. ‘Deadlines’ is a straight up street banger and features one of UK’s rap’s finest lyricists Blade Brown. A mixture of flows and bars from the two makes for a heavy combination of straight up storytelling on this trap beat. Follow on Twitter.

Miles Glyphers – ‘Hurting Me’

Australian rapper Miles Glyphers has unveiled new music ahead of the release of his debut mixtape Twisted Youth, with a remix of fellow Australian JOY.’s 2014 track ‘Stone’ entitled, ‘Hurting Me’. Miles’ relaxed rapping style is a refreshing remix to the sultry, slow burning production of the original and offers a glimpse of the quality we can expect from him in the near future. Deliah – ‘Spying On Life’

Deliah are Alex Dopierala & Michelle Harris, a contemporary R&B act based in Liverpool.. The combination of Michelle’s soulful voice and Dop’s intricate guitar playing, bring a certain class and retro vibe to an undeniable groove. Something that would not look out of place on a line up with artists from Lianne La Havas to Raleigh Ritchie. Follow on Twitter and Facebook.

TOORARETODIE – ‘Love and Religion’

London based collective TOORARETODIE aka TRTD have shared their latest track ‘Love and Religion’. The group once again invite you to join them on a short journey while they discuss the conflict between the two ideologies. Raysh and Stash combine to reflect on their own battles respectively and use arguably the most notorious example, the relationship between man and woman, to bring it all to life. Follow on Twitter.

Saycet – ‘Mirages’

Saycet is the project by Parisian producer Pierre Lefeuvre who, with a handful of releases to his name thus far, is starting to make waves across the continent. His beautiful yet intense tracks are each pieces of art in themselves and having just released his album, expect to hear a lot more about Saycet this year. Hannah V – ‘Make It Last Longer’

Taken from her forthcoming EP Version 2.0, producer Hannah V has teamed up with silky smooth vocalist Leo The Lion for this dancefloor-ready anthem. The pounding drums and distinguished electronic production syncs with Leo’s vocals in sublime fashion and sowcases just what Hannah V’s productions are about. Follow on Twitter and Facebook.

Fifth Quarter – ‘giveintome’

Fifth Quarter are a rapper and guitarist duo from London who are currently focused on storytelling through music and art. With an almost cinematic approach, it’s a reference to relationships and communications within them and with their debut EP set to be release very soon, we can exclusively bring you a track from that very release ‘giveintome’. Magalie – ‘Love Criminal’

Born in Paris and now living in London, Magalie is an artist on the rise. She had huge success with her debut single ‘First Kiss’ released in 2014 gaining half a million Vevo views and she has followed that up with a track entitled ‘Love Criminal’. Which as been remixed by heavyweight dance producers WestFunk.
