Representing a major coup for the latest North East festival on the block, UK indie icons Mystery Jets have today been announced as a heavyweight headliner for the inaugural Coastella Festival on Tyneside.
Taking place between Friday 30th June and Sunday 2nd July 2023, Coastella will take over the world famous Percy Park Rugby Club in North Shields, in what promises to be an unforgettable weekend for coastal music revellers.
Fiercely independent and a bastion for new and original music, Coastella will showcase the best live acts the region has to offer, alongside national touring artists in a never-before seen outdoor festival experience in the very heart of North Shields.
And now, joining the likes of established artists such as DJ Judge Jules and The Futureheads as well as local heroes Liam Fender and Frankie Jobling, is London’s sprightly indie chart-toppers and festival friendlies, Mystery Jets.
An eclectic English indie group that blends conventional pop with kaleidoscopic folk, indie rock, and post-punk, Mystery Jets emerged in the early 2000s.
A family project centered around frontman Blaine Harrison and his father Henry Harrison, the group debuted their unique 1960s psych-pop-influenced sound in 2006 with the release of their debut album ‘Making Dens.’
The Syd Barrett-inspired outfit formed in the mid-’90s when the group’s shock-headed frontman, Blaine Harrison, was only 12.
The band was initially called the ‘Misery Jets’, in honor of the Heathrow-bound jets that habitually roared over their native Eel Pie Island.
Since then they’ve gone onto score 7 studio albums, including their latest record, 2020’s ‘A Billion Heartbeats’, and a variety of festival friendly anthems including ‘Young Love’ (featuring Laura Marling), ‘Two Doors Down’ and ‘Bubblegum’.
Coastella will play host to around 100 artists across three days and nights and will have a strong focus on local talent.
Coastella Festival will be an over-18s event on the Friday leg of the festival and on the Saturday and Sunday 14 plus year-olds will be permitted to attend, but only if accompanied by an adult.
As well as having two main music stages, there will also be a wide variety of local food vendors and outdoor bars serving all the latest trends and street tastes.

“The lads have taken to the stages of some of the biggest festivals in the country in recent years including the Isle of Wight, Kendal Calling, Tramlines, TRNSMT, and Glastonbury, cementing themselves as one of the best festival bands the country has produced.

Tickets for Coastella 2023 are on sale now, priced at £30 for Friday night and £80 for a weekend pass, and are expected to sell out.
