Introducing Interview: Mickey 9’s

Having just released their funk-fused new single ‘Superman’, Glaswegian group Mickey 9’s is comprised of Ants (guitar), Dave (bass), and Ross (drums). Since forming, the band have gone on to be a leading members of the Scottish festival circuit making appearances at The Barrowlands as well as supporting prominent bands such as Sugarhill Gang.

Ahead of the release of their new album early next year, we caught up with the band to find out more…

Hi Mickey 9’s, welcome to Gigslutz! How are you today?
Not bad, thanks!

Can you tell us a bit more about Mickey 9’s, please?
Mickey 9’s are a 4-piece band that makes dance music with guitars and without synths. We’ve been pals since school and love doing things the hard way.

What’s the story behind your latest single ‘Superman’?
No story really. Bassist just started hitting some heavy groove and we just joined in. Singer was reading Nietzsche at the time and it all just clicked…

Any plans to release an album in the near future?
Oh aye. Got one hot and packaged and ready to go at some point in early 2017 – Galactic Radio. Genuinely, think it’s the best thing we’ve done so far.

What’s the next step for Mickey 9’s?
Touring UK, writing another album, melting minds.

Who are your top three all time artist influences?
Daft Punk, Rage Against the Machine, LCD Soundsystem.

Can you describe your sound in three words?
Superfluent Sizzzle Beat.

Huge thanks to Mickey 9’s for answering our questions!
