Introducing: LazyEye

Rating:

Formed earlier this year, LazyEye is Scott Powell – a singer/songwriter from Stoke-on-Trent with a love for guitar-based storytelling. Drawing on influences from the past, such as Bob Dylan and The Kinks, to modern day artists such as Jake Bugg, LazyEye has wasted no time recording and releasing 4 tracks via Itunes and Amazon.

‘Wherever I Go’ is a folky number, evidently reflective of Scott’s love for The Kinks with a strong accent on the vocal; and, with that ’60s  feel to it, the song is sure to appeal to many. ‘Killer Ooh’ is instantly familiar with the opening guitar sounding very Oasis/Kinks (Lola). For me, this is the pick of the songs released to date with a more ‘happy-go-lucky’ feel to it and some catchy lyrics, as LazyEye sings “pass me the Babycham, put on some Supertramp”; whilst the choice of drink is highly questionable, there is no denying that this is an infectious number that would freshen up the airwaves on many a radio station across the nation. ‘Get Get Get’ continues to highlight the diversity of material on offer from LazyEye with a harder, rockier ’70s sound, while ‘Heartbeat Now’ gallops along at a non-stop pace. Influences are widespread throughout,  as LazyEye blends his clever lyrics into the music.

With 1K+ likes on Facebook already and a forthcoming support slot for John Power (CAST) at The Exchange in Hanly, LazyEye may just be the sound you are looking for to freshen up your playlist!
