King of Leon new single ‘Supersoaker’ Reviewed

With their signature thrashing guitars, snappy snare drums and punchy bass the Kings of Leon have returned with their new single ‘Supersoaker’.

Rarely ones to start their tracks with a slow-build, this latest offering begins with a furiously strummed guitar paving way for a strong beat and ballsy bass. It’s fairly standard Kings of Leon in overall however there’s a fuller more cleaner sound to the production, which ardent fans may find displeasing whilst at the same time making it more approachable to newcomers.

As ever Caleb’s vocals sit neatly over the top of the muscular backing without ever being too prominent or in your face. His bold and at-times screeching Southern-drawl hasn’t changed much since their debut album ten years ago (yes, ten years), and coupled with some lush harmonies it’s a formula that has worked with them many times before. Opinion thus far has been mixed, with older fans yearning for a rougher sound reminiscent of their first three albums whilst others have cited promise ahead of their new album, Mechanical Bull, coming in September.
