Newcastle indie-pop trio Bear Park release their electrifying take on ‘Testify’, out August 29th via 25 Hour Convenience Store, the label run by Gary Powell of The Libertines. The track transforms the 2016 EDM gospel house hit by British DJ HiFi Sean featuring Crystal Waters into a jangly indie-rock anthem, proving once again that Bear Park’s genre-bending approach knows no bounds.
The cover serves as the second single from Bear Park’s upcoming four-track covers EP ‘GROWL’, out September 26th, which sees the band reimagining wildly different songs through their signature indie-pop filter.
“Yeah we have played this live a few times as well. Originally by Hi Fi Sean and Crystal Waters, this is a fabulous dance track, hits the groove and delivers you direct to the dance floor,” explains band member Shay Bagnall. “There is no way any of the three of us could match Crystal Waters vocals but we have tried to keep the feel of the original and give it a Bear Park hug – we also injected a little rock n roll into the song.”
Following their explosive eight-minute cover of ‘Teenage Bomb’ featuring Brian Robertson of The Damned, ‘Testify’showcases Bear Park’s ability to honor the original while making it completely their own. The track maintains the infectious groove of the Defected Records club hit while adding the band’s trademark jangly guitars and rock’n’roll swagger.
Known for their surf-infused hooks and razor-sharp charm, Bear Park have been making waves since their Gary Powell-produced debut album in June 2024. The trio spent the year touring with The Libertines and The Lightning Seeds, playing major UK festivals and honing their craft on stages across the country.
‘GROWL’ represents a bold creative reset for the band, exploring new sonic territory while they prepare their next chapter of original material. The EP spans punk, dance, garage rock and metal – all filtered through Bear Park’s distinctive indie-pop lens, including upcoming covers of Flamin‘ Groovies‘ ‘Shake Some Action’ and Motörhead’s ‘Ace of Spades’.
‘Testify’ is out August 29th via 25 Hour Convenience Store. ‘GROWL’ EP follows September 26th.
