LISTEN: Brooke Combe shares new single ‘A-Game’

Exciting new Edinburgh-born vocalist & multi-instrumentalist Brooke Combe has today unveiled her brand new single ‘A-Game’. The 21 year old – now based in East and Midlothian – is already familiar to legions of fans on social media through her viral covers of everyone from Marvin Gaye to the Scottish men’s football team’s unofficial Euro 2020 song. Combe’s acclaimed debut single proper ‘Are You With Me?’ arrived in May to a rapturous response – and ‘A-Game’ provides another tantalising window into the world of a singularly talented and hugely exciting young artist. Brooke Combe will also play a first Glasgow headline show at the legendary King Tuts on 5 August – tickets for the gig sold out in a matter of hours highlighting the buzz surrounding the soulful newcomer.

Speaking about ‘A-Game’, Combe says: “When I was writing A-Game I was delving into what it was like being with someone purely for lighthearted fun. However, when you start to notice that this person is having such a good effect on you that you question whether or not you want more. Nobody knew the full extent of the relationship and we both felt we had to keep it on the down low which essentially, made it more fun.”

Both ‘A-Game’ and debut single ‘Are You With Me?’ were recorded by The Coral’s James Skelly & Chris Taylor at Liverpool’s legendary Parr Street Studios in 2020 (where Combe also filmed the accompanying live video by Sam Crowston), mixed by longtime Black Keys collaborator Kennie Takahashi and feature Blossoms’ Chaz Salt on bass and Aden Peets on drums. ‘Are You With Me?’ was praised by the likes of NME, Dork, When The Horn Blows, and CLASH (who crowned it Track Of The Day), and supported at radio by Gemma Bradley at BBC Radio 1, John Kennedy at Radio X, and Apple Music’s Matt Wilkinson.

Brooke Combe discovered a love for music aged just 5 years old, after getting her first toy drum kit. Eventually she added playing saxophone, trombone, guitar, bass and piano to her repertoire while at secondary school and began to find her own uniquely powerful voice along the way. Combe, influenced by the ‘90s R&B played in her mum and dad’s house, as well as the Motown her grandparents would play her, developed a love of great songwriting and vocalists and lyricists with their own idiosyncrasies – such as Amy Winehouse and Fleetwood Mac – before beginning to work on her own material.

Now, with a stunning brace of first statements finally out in the world, Brooke Combe has announced herself as a genuine artist to watch in 2021 and beyond.
