LISTEN: Calista Kazuko Shares New Track ‘Uchi’

Calista Kazuko returns with new alt-pop track ‘Uchi,’ out via iChi Ni Records.

Soulful harmonies and jazz elements blend to create inspired moments –  floating over us like confetti lighting-up in a night sky. Reminiscent of Fiona Apple, Amanda Palmer or Kate Bush in her performance-art approach, Kazuko layers harmonies in this poetic, sensuous and dramatic piece of art-pop.

The track is dedicated to her mother ‘Yamauchi’ meaning ‘home inside the mountains.’ ‘Uchi’ is in dedication to all of our ‘inner homes’ and written to honour the families she has worked with as part of her work with Migrant Help UK.  A meditation on home and what it means to us, she was inspired by learning about new cultures and all that home represents in location, traditional food, poetry and song.

Calista Kazuko studied classical/jazz piano and composition at London’s Royal Academy of Music and is known for her cinematic genre-bending, controversial and boundary-pushing performances. With top 10 chart success and live Maida Vale session for the BBC, her tracks have also featured at Stella McCartney fashion shows. She is currently penning her first feature length piece of music-theatre with playwright Stephanie Martin, premiering in Spring 2022.
