We’re always trying to broaden our musical horizons here at Gigslutz (more so since the UK decided to consciously uncouple from the EU), so here’s something a little different to our usual fodder: intense Italian Modern Alt rock.

Hailing from Turin, Northern Italy, together Lorenzo Mazzucchi and Luca Del Fiore are PEAKS! Coming together at the tail-end of 2020, their debut track ‘Blackout’ notched-up nearly two million Spotify streams, as well as being used on MOTD (and, er, last season’s Love Island).

But PEAKS! haven’t yet peaked, oh no. New single ‘When The Lights Fade Out’ features more trademark fuzzy guitars and straight-talking lyrics. It’s a powerful track, inspired by – as the title helpfully suggests – the harsh reality of a future without electricity or light.

Despite the dystopian subject-matter, exploring the darkness that can potentially envelop us all (like, quite literally in the current energy crisis), the song is anthemic in parts – reminding us that ultimately, there is always hope.

“We don’t want this song to be just a depressing reminder of what could be,” explain the duo. “We want it to be a call to action. A rallying cry to fight for change and demand a more equitable distribution of resources.”

Having played The Great Escape last year, as well as supporting Pearl Jam at BST Hyde Park, ‘When The Lights Fade Out’ is sure to be a future live favourite – if only for the excuse to bellow out the defiant line ‘I don’t give a f*ck now’ as some form of screaming therapy. Lord knows we all need it.
