LISTEN: Soccer Mommy – ‘Out Worn’

Nashville-born NYU student Soccer Mommy (aka Sophie Allison) releases debut mini-album Collection this summer, after releasing songs on Bandcamp for the past few years. Her tender, harrowing exploration of adulthood and relationships is something indie music has been waiting for.

New track ‘Out Worn’ takes Sophie’s tried-and-tested formula of tightly knitted lyrics married with doozy instrumentals to a new level. Lyrics “I feel stupid now/keeping you around” and “You don’t love me now/I think you don’t know how” are gratingly painful, yet Sophie weaves these self-described “kinda sad” lyrics through poppy, dazed guitars to create something perfect for both a warm summer’s afternoon and a rainy Sunday.

‘Out Worn’ is a dip into Sophie’s DIY ethic, retaining the warm haze of bedroom acoustics and that homemade feeling, at the same time as being gloriously ambitious. With her quietly catchy songs, Sophie steps closer to the limelight she is so destined for.
