Fontaines D.C. returned to the scene of their biggest sold-out London headline show to date, to perform at the O2 Brixton Academy to quench the thirst of desperate gig goers and performed an interactive live streamed gig, which was available exclusively on MelodyVR.
Fans around the globe were able to experience the performance from the iconic London venue, and choose from multiple camera angles to make the show their own.
Fontaines D.C.’s latest album ‘A Hero’s Death’ has been one of the best-received records of 2020 which was released barely a year after therelease of their Mercury Prize nominated debut album ‘Dogrel’. The streamed show saw the band from Dublin draw on their wealth of uniquely crafted material from both their albums. It was an intensely thunderous performance that was both tumultuous and energetic and demonstrated raw punk poetry at its finest.
The beautifully frantic ‘A Lucid Dream’ opened proceedings and the set continued with the likes of ‘Televised Mind’, ‘Hurricane Laughter’, ‘Too Real’ and ‘Big’. There were some more tender moments with the likes of ‘You Said’ and ‘Oh Such A Spring’, which demonstrated perfectly the capabilities of Fontaines D.C. when exploring more serene territories when their foot isn’t pressed so firmly on the accelerator.
In an age where there are lots of groups who play instruments, but very few bands, Fontaines DC are an absolute breath of fresh air in terms of their unpredictability and musical prowess. They bring something incredibly fresh to the table and their raw, venomous and poetic delivery at Brixton Academy demonstrated perfectly why the return of live music in packed sweaty venues can’t come soon enough.
