New Track: Antonio James – ‘Midnight Mirror’

Dark and hard hitting, ‘Midnight Mirror’ is the début single from London producer Antonio James. I can sense tones of the Weeknd, London Grammar and FKA Twigs with this new and relaxed neo R&B mix. Antonio has said that the track is inspired by the thoughts of pain, loss and the thought processes that are in place when someone is visiting a former place that could once be considered positive. There is a great blend of R&B and electro which has made a sound that, although not entirely unique in this admittedly saturated genre, stand out over others that follow a similar pattern. Yes, there are a lot of songs that do seem similar to this, but for me this is a stand-out track. It does not feel forced, like many, Antonio does genuinely seem to want to produce this type of music. He is not merely following the trend of over encumbering this genre because it’s the flavour of the year.

Reminiscent of the likes of James Blake with powerful vocals mixed with a subtle bass undertone, it parts ‘Midnight Mirror’ can be hypnotic and memorizing; it is a track to just sit and chill out too. But, unlike many others, it actually works as a relaxing song. Its subtle sense of euphoria blends in well with the rhythmic vocals. It certainly is an admirable début single and you can certainly see why it is attracting the attention of the media worldwide.

Certainly, if Antonio continues with this style and does not conform to the ever popular growth in this musical genre, he will go far. I have confidence that he will stick with his style. I really hope to be hearing more from Antonio in the future because his sound and passion are extremely admirable.
