New Track: Artblock – ‘Borderline’

Alt-folk artist Artblock are back with their latest EP. Produced by Ben Walker of Roughtrade Records, their future looks bright with this latest offering.

Title track ‘Borderline’ is a soothing, simplistic track. Beginning with the earthy plucking of an acoustic guitar, the introduction sets the scene. Sweeping strings enhance the track, which is then later strengthened by the organ drones, which linger towards the chorus. A country vibe can be taken from the sound of the number, though with a lot of infused passion and emotion shining through.

The vocals of the track transcend the number, with its complementary hushed, dulcet toned quality. Adding to this are the matching chilled lyrics, this number is filled with relaxed riffs, oozing talent from this artist. Once again, these riffs sound towards the chorus, though this time shifting to a more electric approach. Towards the bridge, everything plays collectively which concludes the track nicely.

Despite the vocals contrasting with the heavier and busier instrumentals of the track, it completely works. With a composed, earthy and original sound, it’s simply charming.

Artblock is clearly more than ‘borderline’ perfectionist in this track – with plenty of character, sound and talent to carry him far with their future offerings.

Borderline, the latest EP from Artblock, is out now.
