New Track: Coves – ‘You’re Evil’

Having toured with St. Vincent and The Raveonettes, and due to support Pixies in July this year (as well as slots at upcoming festivals such as Field Day and The Great Escape), it’s clear that Coves have been busy, and are doing well. The duo have been attracting lots of support, and have announced details of their upcoming single, ‘You’re Evil’ – praised by Radio 1’s Huw Stephens as “sounding like the best song they’ve done yet”.

‘You’re Evil’ begins with a gritty snarl, which acts as an immediate burst of energy to the listener, before dropping to the groovy ambience of the verses. The snarl returns in the chorus; whilst simple, it’s incredibly infectious. The vocals from Rebekah Wood merge with the already mentioned snarl of John Roffe Ridgard in a magnificent fashion. The ending of the track bursts into chaos with the fuzz of the guitar, piercing into your eardrums, before ringing out into oblivion.

‘You’re Evil’ has been described as a “guitar driven, soaring pop stomper”, and I can’t disagree.

Coves release their sophomore album Peel on 1 April, along with the single.
