New Track: Cut Glass Kings – ‘Only A Day Dream’

Cut Glass Kings, a three-piece from Birmingham, may be late to the B-Town party pioneered by the likes of Peace and Swim Deep that peaked a couple of years back; however, they’re right on time for the ’90s revival that their latest release ‘Only A Day Dream’ predominantly echoes.

Although the track might be somewhat formulaic, this isn’t necessarily a criticism – the best things often are (take a Mary Berry recipe, for example). ‘Only A Day Dream’ is instantly recognisable guitar-driven music that clearly harks back to early Oasis, nods to T-Rex and – at times – pays homage to the kings of psychedelic guitar music themselves, Tame Impala.

Paired with a suitably trippy video and a throbbing feel-good beat that can surely move even the most stubborn of dancers to tap their feet, the track is beautifully accessible and makes for a blistering follow-up to the more languid ‘Drifter’.

‘Only A Day Dream’ is due for release 8 April via Skeleton Key.
