New Track: Ella On The Run – ‘Cavalry’

I can only imagine how gratifying it must be to be placed on Glastonbury’s long and ever growing list of emerging artists; that immense feeling of self-satisfaction that all your hard work and sacrifice is finally paying off. For London based alt-pop artist Ella On The Run, 2014 saw the realisation of this ambition. On first listen, I heard a subtle blend of the likes of Jesse Glynne, Sia and Goldfrapp.

2015 sees the release of her new single, ‘Cavalry’which is already attracting interest from a number of high profile people in the music industry. The likes of BBC Radio One, Huffington Post and Clash Music have all taken an active interest in Ella and listening to her music you can certainly see why.

Ella turned her music career around when she decided to grab her suitcase and jet off to Los Angeles. The singer, who boasts having a Swiss, French and South African origin, has credited her musical variation to having such a multicultural background. The travelling and knowledge of differing languages has allowed her to become more open-minded – a trait which she brings to her music. Her sound cannot really be categorised. Her musical inspirations certainly hold no specific genre. She lists off artists such as Madonna, TLC, Chakka Khan and The Gypsy Kings, and you can see how this has made an impact on her performing style. There are subtle undertones of many differing genres in her music.

‘Cavalry’ is a fine display of everything that Ella on the Run is about. It’s a superb song which I highly recommend you seek out. She is receiving the recognition from highly credited journalists, and the future sure seems to be bright for her. I’d definitely like to see more of her amongst the chart toppers, it would be a welcome change and one that I believe would be very well received. The video is worth a watch too: excellent stop-motion animation adding to the musical delight of the track.
