New Track: The Gotobeds – ‘Brash Not Rash’

Being released on the legendary Sub Pop record label comes with an element of pressure; thankfully, The Gotobeds have more than lived up to expectations with ‘Brash Not Rash’.

While the Seattle-based label is renowned for fuzzy, punk-rock music – most notably Nirvana – ‘Brash Not Rash’ is reminiscent of The Strokes, circa Is This It, albeit rawer – not overly aggressive, but direct and rowdy enough to grab you by the scruff of the neck and demand your full attention.

This isn’t some tribute act harking back to the early noughties, however, and Eli ‘Hazy Lazer’ Kasan’s off-kilter vocal is a particular highlight, jumping in and out, as if he’s caught in two minds between singing into the microphone or going off to have a dance to the infectious guitars.

The Gotobeds may not be trying to reinvent the wheel, but after all, the wheel is pretty damn good, right?
