New Track: Mayflower – ‘I’m Not There’

Manchester is renowned for producing in-your-face rock’n’roll ready to fight anyone and everyone, but Mayflower continue to take things at their own pace with new single ‘I’m Not There’ – to a wonderfully charming effect. Drenched in unashamedly catchy melodies and hazy harmonies, it is easy to understand why Mayflower have quickly grabbed the attention of the likes of BBC 6Music, and were named Gigslutz’s Ones to Watch only 12 months after forming.

Following on from debut single ‘Sienna’, the four piece’s second offering continues in the same vein of their hallmark dreamy pop and adds further encouragement to the sense that they are well worth looking out for.

The understated fuzz of Jacob Calvert’s guitar is a particular delight – adding to the warmth of the vocals, helping ‘I’m Not There’ stay away from cliched ballad territory and add the polish on a much more accomplished, exciting sound.

Mayflower are one of a number of artists continuing to show that Manchester isn’t just about beer lairyness, long may it continue.
