New Track: The Nix – ‘Echo’

Nowadays it’s not often that an indie rock band comes along that stand out from the multitude already out there; however, Manchester-based five piece The Nix seem to have set themselves apart with their combination of lazy guitars and rough cut vocals in their latest single ‘Echo’.

One of the most notable aspects about the both the band and their music is the ‘right on’ and DIY attitude they have, so – when first hearing the track – there’s a strong sense of authenticity. Guitars sound distant with occasionally muffled drums, giving the effect of a live performance. Then there are the effects of echo and delay on the vocals which escalate to angst ridden vocalist crying out ‘If I don’t get my way I’ll be leaving here today’. Being filmed entirely through a fish-eye camera, the video for ‘Echo’ also has a very genuine feel with the band certainly not hiding behind the makeup pallets and film crews the music industry has become infatuated with.

The Nix will be releasing a new EP this Summer and, if ‘Echo’ is anything to go by, we can be expecting a lot more of these authentic sounds of rich guitars and ardent vocals very soon.
