New Track: Strange Wilds – ‘Pronoia’

After a West Coast tour of America secured them a record deal with industry giants Sub Pop, Washington-based grunge rock band Strange Wilds have released ‘Pronoia’, taken from their debut album Subjective Concepts.

Upon initially hearing the track I concluded that a combination of deadpan vocals and a menacing guitar riff meant that I would be listening to a somewhat predictable indie rock track, however – as the track proceeds – this certainly isn’t the case. A hellish fury is unleashed upon reaching the chorus where we hear lead singer Steven pitilessly yelling “no way” over intense drum rhythms in interplay with the powerfully stinging electric guitar.

The band describes themselves as “heavy, heavy doom and gloom”, which certainly resonates throughout ‘Pronoia’ and, influenced by bands like Nirvana and Devo, we wouldn’t expect anything less from a group like Strange Wilds.

If the track leaves you wanting to hear more from the band, their debut album Subjective Concepts is due to be released worldwide on July 24 and is sure to be filled with the dark and heavy sounds we’ve heard in their music so far.
