New Track: Sugarmen – ‘Dirt’

Liverpool band Sugarmen are a four piece consisting of Luke Fenlon, Chay Heney, Sam McVann and Tom Shields. Having already scheduled their debut at this year’s Dot To Dot Festival and also being announced as support for a numerous amount of reputable acts including the likes of Sleaford Mods, Paul Weller, Blur and The Who, it’s safe to say there’s somewhat of a buzz around Sugarmen. So, we took a look at their debut track, ‘Dirt’.

‘Dirt’ begins with the soothing rings of a guitar, and a short segment of calmness before a bombardment of quick bursts of guitar chords and the pounding of the drums; it doesn’t take long for the track to quickly take off into full flight, an element that would surely pay off when focusing on the track from a live perspective.

The sheer pace and volume of ‘Dirt’ points towards some of the more ‘classic’ English indie bands, such as the likes of the Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, The Cribs and so forth – all of this, as well as characteristics from one of the U.K’s greatest cities,  certainly works in their favour.

The dominant bass-line that is found throughout the verses, as well as the presence of the vocals and the already mentioned pace, provides the track with a sort of classic punk sound: all in all, a well varied track in terms of its influences. Even after entering double figures of times listened to the track, it’s as catchy as the first listen, keeping the listener engaged time after time – a well achieved feat for a debut.

Produced by Mick Jones,’ Dirt’ is out 13th April via Poor Old Soul Records. And you can catch Sugarmen live:

Dot To To Festival – 22nd/23rd/24th May

Hyde Park (supporting BLUR) – 20th June
