New Track(s): Bankrupt – ‘Disco Apocalypse’ and ‘The Legend Of Lee Martin’

Bankrupt, from Budapest, are a trio with no boundaries. Their music ranges from ’50s surf rock to ’80s synth leads, but the combination of both can make their sound the perfect formula for an indie-pop anthem. Having been around for eighteen years, the Hungarian band have managed to play around 400 shows and release three albums, four EPs and now three singles – it’s easy to see that they do what they can with the time that they have.

Nothing shows this more than latest single, ‘Disco Apocalypse’, which sees a pop-punk influence heavily delivered within the vocals of Rocco and William. It’s a light-hearted throw-back to everything good in music from the last five or six decades. It’s extremely uplifting and takes you straight to the core of their music, missing nothing out on the way. If we were to categorise this, it’s a summer anthem that needs to be in your sunny playlists, but it’s a track that will stand out and introduce you to the Hungarian music scene. Their synth-pop is strikingly unique with this song – it has a sense of individuality about it and a wholesome feel with the final product. Being able to create an uplifting mood and warm feelings through these melodies isn’t an easy feat; it takes an intelligent group of people to carefully craft it, but Bankrupt have done so in a way that makes them a noticeable band to watch.

Alongside ‘Disco Apocalypse’, the trio also released another single – ‘The Legend of Lee Martin’. Showcasing a completely different side to the band, this track has a more downbeat, reflective tone brought into the mix and there’s more room for the surf-rock to come forward. And, with smooth chords and loops that flow with the vocals, slight similarities to the likes of Nick Cave and Paul McCartney can even be discerned.
