NEWS: Stephen EvEns Shares Video ‘I Hate Shop’

Stephen EvEns shares new video to track I Hate Shop, taken from his recent album, Employee of the Month out via Onomatopoeia Records at the end of 2020.

Described by The Arts Desk, as ‘post-punk skronk,’ seems the perfect description for this pure heavy bass and wonk drenched groove, as EvEns indulges in a bit of retail therapy with this post-punk indie banger.

The video directed by Ash Jones takes us on a tour around the shops of EvEns’ homestead village of Ashstead, visiting all manor of local retailers, as the protagonist aims to land himself a place within the respectable world of the 9-5. In a journey through the Butchers, Chinese take-away, Grocers and Et Cetera, he lands himself in a couple of outlets – as he learns to throw a cauliflower into a bag and winds-up with a stint as a dancing butcher.

We are also treated to a whole choir of shouty backing vocals towards the end, as comrades at Brixton Hill pitch-in – Jen Macro (Hurtling), Caroline Gilchirst & Anna Dodridge (Hot Sauce Pony), Gabi Garbutt (Gabi Garbutt & The Illuminations), Kate Arnold and Katie Wilson, he is also joined by fellow Brixton Studio aficionados, Nick Howiantz on bass and Jimi Scandal on lead guitar.
