Ones to watch: La Casa Al Mare

With the return of Ride, and the likes of DIIV creating a newer shoegaze scene, the latest offering comes in the form of La Casa Al Mare, an Italian three-piece from Rome, who are certainly on a mission – and seemingly the right track – to make themselves known.

With fuzzy guitars, complete with some of the coolest names in music, La Casa Al Mare is made up of Paolo Miceli, formerly of Sea Dwlerr and My Violent Ego, Marco Polonion, of La Cale Mojada, and Alessio Pindineli. As you gain knowledge of their previous musical background, the strength of the band – whilst still truly admirable – is a little more understandable. Having recently released their debut EP, This Astro, La Casa Al Mare have compiled a collection of perfectly gritty, no-holds-barred noise pop tracks.

They manage to draw on the influence of old psych/shoegaze bands, whilst remaining fresh and blowing off the unwanted cobwebs of recycled indie nonsense. They carry an underlying feeling of discomfort – a sort of seasickness, which goes rather fittingly with their name (translating as ‘The Beach House’) – in a way that allows you to get only so lost in the music, whilst still wondering what to expect next. What is certain is that La Casa Al Mare have a definite air of effortlessness and unrivalled talent; be sure to look out for them.
