Ones To Watch: Mayflower

It’s no secret that Manchester is a hotbed for musical talent. So, it’s no surprise that it’s blessed us with yet another exciting new band. Mayflower have only been together for twelve months, yet they have a deeply mature sound, and present something that’s seemingly straying a little from current trends.

Whilst everyone else is going down the route of pysch and grunge revival, Mayflower are taking a softer approach. Their new demo ‘Sienna’ combines emotion-drenched vocals with soothing guitars; it’s reminiscent of Kasabian’s slower tracks – think ‘Goodbye Kiss’ and ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ – and, quite frankly, it’s gorgeous.

Mayflower have all the ingredients to become a very successful indie band, and if ‘Sienna’ is anything to go by, their rock ‘n’ roll ballads will make fantastic singalong tunes. The kind that will bode perfectly well with crowds at gigs, but also provide a new addition to the list of songs you scream along to emotionally with your friends at the end of the night. What more could you ask for?

Listen out for Mayflower on BBC 6 Music – they’re due to be played on Chris Hawkins’ show over the next couple of weeks!
