Ones To Watch: Then Thickens

Powerfully poignant, Chorley rockers Then Thickens are set to follow up their highly acclaimed debut album Death Cap At Anglezarke at the end of this month, with a “crude and real” new release.

Full of atmospheric orchestration, climactic melodies and yearning emotion, Colic is a novel telling every story of the band’s progression together. From the anecdotal ‘My Amsterdam’ to the more uplifting ‘My Sunday’, Then Thickens are certainly proving themselves as ‘ones to watch’.

Beginning as a bedroom project, it’s fair to say that the band have come a long way since the release of their debut, so much so that they’ve seen themselves performing alongside the likes of Biffy Clyro and Echo and The Bunnymen. So, if you’re needing someone to play a slot like this, Then Thickens are obvious candidates with the stadium-filling anthems and uprooting melodies of tracks such as ‘Smothered In Gold’.

Colic, the new album from Then Thickens, is out on October 23 via Hatch Records. And you can catch the band live this month:

23 October – Cardiff / Clwb Ifor Bach
24 October – Bristol / Stag & Hounds
25 October – London / Old Blue Last
29 October – Manchester / Night & Day
