Paul Weller LIVE @ Cannock Chase Forest 28.06.14

Over the years I’m sure every word has been used to describe Paul Weller, one of the greatest musicians to have ever graced this planet and quite possibly this earth. His constant ability to produce music to an extremely high standard from his days with The Jam, through to The Style Council and his solo work, has given him the credible title of a British Master.

It was a sell out show for the ‘Modfather’ at Cannock Chase Forest last night (June 28), with thousands of mods flocking to see their idol. With the infamous sideburns haircut on show everywhere and middle aged men dusting off the parka and bowling shoes to make sure they looked the part; despite this gig being in the middle of the forest.

But as the anticipation levels rose buoyed on by young guns, The Merrylees a band who breathe a cool Americana folk rock feel while Telegram produced a fierce guitar performance; leaving the crowd more than ready for the man himself.

It was a high intensity performance from Weller, 55, who formed an enticing set of electric and acoustic tunes, while rocking his head to, ‘SunFlower’ and ‘Come On, Let’s Go’.

And the lull was timed to perfection by Weller who played, ‘Porcelain Gods’ and ‘Above The Clouds’ before rolling out ‘Peacock Suit’ and of course ‘Start!’, which was sadly the only Jam song to make the set list.

Weller then returned for two separate encores which included six exhilarating tracks, ending the night in knockout fashion with Style Council’s ‘The Changingman’ and  ‘Whirlpools End’.

It was a fantastic night for a fantastic cause (Forestry Commission). Long may they continue and long may Weller keep delivering these sorts of lively gigs.
