Reminiscent to selecting a favourite morning cereal, Bedfordshire’s Matt Berry has released meticulous spoonfuls of music deliciousness to keep the gut and soul filled with plentiful of bristling sugary joy for 30 years. 2011’s Witchazel (Coco Pops), 2014’s Music for Insomniacs (Honey Nut), 2018’s Television Themes (Lucky Charms) and 2021’s The Blue Elephant (Weetbix) have left those following his career closely asking those lesser educated music fans ‘have you had yours yet?’
2025’s Snap Crackle and Pop release Heard Noises released via his long-term collaboration team Acid Jazz does little to whet the appetite even further for more stunning stereo delights. Opening with the Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and the Trinity Why On Fire sounding track featuring seductive snappy break beats with a rich thick gooey topping of pop royalty; Silver Rings continues with echoes of the most highly esteemed 60’s vibes this time Amen Corner sounding woodwind; Interlude sounds like a close cousin to Pink Floyd In The Beechwoods whilst Interlude 2 has Berry continuing the seductive KPM vibes that so richly blessed us via his 2023 KPM Simplicity release.
Be Alarmed has some unique psych phasing twisting your mind and back again; I Gotta Limit has the same bite and luscious groove as Lulu’s I’m A Tiger; I Entered As I Came brings the mood to a gorgeous stand still sounding like Marianne Faithful at the Rock n Roll Circus before the curtain call of Sky High revisits some of the playful nature exhibited on Sesame Street’s pinball 1-10 funk countdown. Without sounding too ill mannered the mix of all these ingredients brings this fresh crispy pre milk bowl full to a milk saturated sugary feast having the listener lapping up every mouthful leaving a taste of sheer unadulterated pleasure.
