Saltwater Sun’s guide to Live At Leeds 2019

The sun is out and beer gardens are calling – it can only mean summer is nearly here. If you’re like us, festival season is on your mind but forget about packing your tent or worrying about whether to take your wellies as Live At Leeds is kicking things off.

Live At Leeds is the go-to festival for new music, and shows off the North’s top talent. To save you the pre-festival struggle of deciding who to see, we’ve asked some of the acts on this year’s line-up to give us a round-up of their top acts on the bill.

The second to give us their top picks are Saltwater Sun – find a playlist of all of their suggestions below…

Thyla – BBC Introducing Stage, Oporto @ 4pm

Dan (lead guitar): We have had the good fortune to play with Thyla several times over the past couple of years, and each time they keep getting better. They’ve recently released their new EP What’s On Your Mind. It’s all really strong, and I can’t wait to see some new songs live.

Track ‘Only Ever’

Indoor Pets – Dr Martens Boot Room, Brudenell Social Club @ 10pm

Rob (bass): We got into Indoor Pets before they were even Indoor Pets! It’s amazing to see these guys absolutely killing it right now, they’ve worked so hard and their debut album Be Content is a pop-punk delight. They’re always so much fun to watch live and now we’ve got more material to sink our teeth in to we are so excited to jump around and have a sing along with them.

Track ‘Couch’

C Duncan – NME Stage, Leeds University Union @ 5:30pm

Joel (rhythm guitar): I absolutely loved his last two albums Architect and The Midnight Sun and by the sounds of his latest singles, he’s going to follow it up with another great one.

Track – ‘Other Side’

Another Sky – Dr Martens Boot Room, Brudenell Social Club @ 8pm

Jen (vocals): I was lucky enough to see Another Sky at our tiny local (Purple Turtle) in Reading and was absolutely blown away by them. I’ve never ever heard a band sound that good in that room before! They create this spellbinding wall of sound not dissimilar to that of Sigur Ros and Radiohead, both of whom I love. This compounded with Catrin’s truly unique and stunning vocals makes for incredibly special watching. I can’t wait to see them again, they’re going to be huge.

Track – ‘Apple Tree’

Zuzu – BBC Introducing Stage, Oporto @ 8pm

Everyone: we started out on the same label as Zuzu and it’s been a privilege to watch her go from strength to strength. Her songs are boss (see what we did there Zu) and they are elevated to another level when she plays them live with her awesome band! She’s gonna be big time and is so much fun to watch so we highly recommend her set to everyone!

Track ‘Beauty Queen’

Sundara Karma – Leeds Festival Presents Stage, O2 Academy Leeds @ 9:30pm

Benny (drums): A local band I haven’t seen perform live since we played with them many moons ago, so I am really looking forward to seeing how they have grown and progressed since then, especially with the directional change they’ve made with their latest album ‘Ulfilas’ Alphabet’.

Track – ‘Illusions’

Gengahr – Momentum & Independent Stage, Leeds Beckett SU @ 4:45pm

Everyone:We got into Gengahr a long time ago now through a mutual producer. Both albums are often on rotation in the van as they are band favourites. We’ve been lucky enough to support them/ be on the same festival lineup several times and they just keep getting better. The songs are beautiful and they are super tight live.

Track ‘Whole Again’
