TRACK REVIEW: The Greeting Committee ‘Sinner’

After contributing a charismatic, extremely insightful interview for Gigslutz Unsigned back in 2013 – where the band told the readers of Gigslutz to “Eat plenty of steak bakes and watch those roads” – the lads from Newcastle Upon-Tyne, The Greeting Committee, have once again sparked flooding fires of interest, with their exceedingly brilliant brand-new single, ‘Sinner’.

The six Geordie boys who make up The Greeting Committee released their neo-psychedelic debut EP Island (an EP bubbling and bursting with high-intensity emotions and Verve-esk influence) late last year. Since then however, popping up on their Soundcloud page most recently, is the fantastic new single from the band, titled ‘Sinner’. From the onset it’s clear to hear that maturity and professionalism course through the backbone of ‘Sinner’, automatically making this track, and this band, the ones to watch.

Opening with an eerie sense of foreboding driven by a dramatic guitar line, ‘Sinner’ is a subtle and controlled masterpiece of daunting imagination. While the elongated introduction is sliced with the intrepid voice of The Greeting Committee’s frontman Jon Corbett, the atmosphere emitting from this single changes direction, taking on a much more established sound; something excitingly unique.

To the listener’s delight as the track rolls on, an authoritative instrumental, showcasing a killer guitar riff swallows ‘Sinner’ leaving both ravished mouths and ears gaping open, begging for more, yet still strangely satisfied. The crescendo of this sublime track comes to a head before slowly fading to an end; keeping you hooked in until the very last second with wicked riffs and infectious rhythms.

‘Sinner’ is a major step up for The Greeting Committee, proving how far this sextet has matured and progressed since the release of their debut EP last year. ‘Sinner’ – above all – proves that this could be the very start of The Greeting Committee’s charge the top, just watch this space.
