Our expectations of video games have shifted significantly over the past few years. No longer are we just after the most immersive gameplay or graphics to complement the title.
Instead, the best video games will also be complete with the most memorable soundtracks or catchy jingles that will leave you engrossed as you make deep inroads playing them.
To a certain extent, video games have transcended popular culture with the musical scores that have been used. Super Mario Bros and Tetris, for example, are standalone titles that have resonated with its loyal legion of fans.
However, there has been a smorgasbord of video games that have inspired movies and vice versa. More pertinently, there have been casino-based films that have produced some memorable soundtracks, with Ocean’s Eleven and Casino Royal springing to mind.
But what are the most iconic soundtracks used for video games? We have highlighted a few of them on this page.
Game of Thrones
We all know about the hit TV show that made a huge impact, but the Game of Thrones video game has a pretty cool soundtrack to boot too which was composed by Ramin Djawadi. There is something rather rousing about it, and the music changes for different levels as you move through the game, so it avoids becoming too repetitive. It’s these thoughtful touches that make it worth playing.
GOT has also made its way into the digital casino scene, and this slot is available to play at many reputable operators, including LeoVegas, which boasts some of the best no deposit free spins in the UK. Typically, there are GOT-focussed offers too for players to take advantage of.
Elden Ring
Arguably considered to be one of the finest games that came out in 2022, Elden Ring is one of those dark and atmospheric titles that is set in a world of gods and mortals, and it follows the story of the main character who embarks on a journey to repair the Elden Ring and become the new Elden Lord.
And the music matches the brooding atmosphere. The game’s score befits the nature of the title, and it has a beautiful blend of orchestral and choral tracks that is spine-chillingly good.
Halo
Perhaps one of the finest video game franchises of all time, there is little that you can fault about Halo. And that extends to the quality of the music that is played throughout.
Composed by Martin O’Donnell, the soundtrack is a bit of a blockbuster and it will make you sit up and take notice. Even the latter versions of Halo, such as Halo Infinite, provide a classic take on Halo themes, and you may be hard-pushed to find a better score than Zeta Halo.
God of War
Music can go a long way in determining the influence of any given video game, and the same can be said for God of War. The album that was created by Bear McCreary has many thunderous soundtracks, including the main title track for the game as well as some of the other scores, which include Witch of the Woods and Lullaby of Giants.
Many of these are thunderous, and they create a sense of urgency that won’t be lost on the player.
Metal Gear Solid
Harry Gregson-Williams became a household name as a film and TV music composer before branching out into the world of video gaming.
And with his cinematic background, it seemed like a natural fit for him to work on the Metal Gear Solid games. He didn’t disappoint as he managed to perfectly encapsulate the espionage feel of the game by marrying orchestral with electronic effects.
