The Savage Nomads release new single, ‘Porno’

Well, The Savage Nomads are back, and they’re sounding better than ever. Whilst new single – ‘Porno’ – retains the cool indie-pop sound and catchy, hooky guitars we have come to know and love, there is an added groove to this number; as frontman Salewicz says – “It’s meant to have a funky edge that people can dance to”. And dance to it you will, just like the pretty lady in the video.

Inspired by the ruthlessness of the world and the fast pace of life, the song was written on 21st December 2012 – a date when the world was supposed to end. The theme of there never being enough time thus runs throughout ‘Porno’: as Salewicz contemplates the fact that ‘there’s always a faster gun’ and why we are constantly ‘skipping Sunday’s drive’, he highlights the urgency of life and the way in which it can so easily rush past us in an instant.

However, despite the deeper, rather more profound, lyrical content than past material, ‘Porno’ is an upbeat number, oozing the band’s characteristic charisma and incessant, funk-fused energy. It loses none of the sparkly catchiness that we have come to acquaint with the Nomads and – with its pounding bass lines, pummelling beat, inspired riffs and that distinctive deep drawl of Salewicz’s – you’ll soon forget that the world was ever supposed to end. You’ll be too busy grooving along to this uptempo slice of shiny pop. With a fantastic video to match –  filled with sparklers and dancing, and arty shots of my local Brixton – I’m quite sure this latest offering from The Savage Nomads will see them headed for even bigger things (though it doesn’t get much more exciting than Brixton) in the very near future.

The single, ‘Porno’, is released 6th April via Republic Of Music. And you can catch The Savage Nomads, live in all their iridescent glory, at their single launch upstairs at The Garage, Highbury on 19th March. I’ve seen them play this precise venue before and – I can safely say – they will not disappoint.
