TRACK: Chvrches – ‘Miracle’

It’s been an interesting few years for the Scottish group  Chvrches. They shot to fame with the release of their debut album The Bones of What You Believe which included hit singles ‘The Mother We Share‘ and ‘Lungs‘. The world tours and hectic scheduling meant there was quite a significant gap between album releases. It was in 2016 that the group released their second album titled Every Open Eye. It was a well recieved album but didn’t really have the impact that their debut album had.

They’re well known for their unique style of synthpop. They deliver with an ever increasing level of energy and they have really managed to elevate the world of electro-pop and deliver it back into the public eye. The group have often been compared to electronic heavyweights Depeche Mode and New Order, a very prestigious comparison to receive. Their latest single, ‘Miracle’, certainly justifies these comparisons and shows just why the band are placed on the pedestal they find themselves on.

The single aired during Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show and has been touted as one of the hottest records in the world. It follows on from their previous album teasing tracks ‘Never Say Die, Get Out’ and ‘My Enemy’. Lead singer Lauren Mayberry delivers another powerhouse performance with her vocal work and she guides the track through it’s twisting verses and bass rattling choruses. The track is a showcase of just what the band can do as a collective unit. The synths are on point and the percussion booms across the speakers without becoming too dominating. Mayberry is in command and knows exactly how to create that synth-pop sound which has risen to band to the level of fame they find themselves in.
