Track of the Week (5/5): The Rosadocs – “Cross to Bear”
By Steve Aston, GigSlutz

For a band already known for belting out anthems that could level a festival crowd, Sheffield’s The Rosadocs have taken a bold and brilliant detour with their latest single “Cross to Bear”. Stripped back, emotionally raw, and lyrically fearless, this track marks a significant turning point — not just in sound, but in identity. This isn’t a band chasing a moment; this is a band making one.

Opening with little more than a sparse guitar line and the bruised vocal of frontman Keelan Graney, “Cross to Bear” feels like a deep breath in a world that rarely pauses. It’s a slow-burning confessional, one that trades the bravado of youth for the vulnerability of lived experience. Graney doesn’t just sing — he unravels. There’s pain here, sure. But there’s also something more important: honesty.

Inspired by the silent weight of modern life — the emotional toll of keeping up, keeping quiet, and keeping going — the lyrics hit with the subtle force of something you didn’t realise you needed to hear until it’s said aloud. “It felt extremely personal at the time,” Graney admits, “but I’ve since seen close friends go through exactly what I wrote about.” That universality is the magic of “Cross to Bear.” It’s a song for everyone silently struggling.

But what truly sets this track apart is its delivery. Gone are the walls of sound and driving drums; in their place is a haunting intimacy. Keelan and guitarist/keyboardist Myles Henderson perform side by side, exposing the raw core of The Rosadocs — a band just as capable of devastating subtlety as they are explosive choruses. It’s a move that highlights their growth, their confidence, and their intent.

It’s also a glimpse of what’s to come. “Cross to Bear” is the first taste of an upcoming EP that promises more reflection, more experimentation, and even more emotional weight. Self-produced and creatively fearless, this next chapter for The Rosadocs feels like the one where they stop being Sheffield’s best-kept secret and become national names.

With a monster summer of sold-out headline shows and festival dates — including The Great Escape, Camden Assembly, Rock N Roll Circus, and Come Together Newcastle with Kings of Leon — the stage is literally set. But if “Cross to Bear” is any indication, they’re not just ready for the spotlight — they’re ready to own it.

Verdict: A stunning, soul-baring single that proves The Rosadocs are more than just anthems and ambition — they’re artists with something to say. “Cross to Bear” is their most powerful statement yet. 5/5.
