TRACK REVIEW: The Moons ‘Heart and Soul’

‘Heart and Soul’ is the brand new single from mod-rockers ‘The Moons’. Released via Schnitzel Record on the 31st of March it gives us a taster of what might come when the new studio album is released in July.

This is not what we have come to expect from the Northampton 4 piece. Given they were recently supported by a certain Mr Paul Weller, this latest offering would sit more comfortably alongside Bolan and Bowie rather than The Jam or Weller himself.

The song opens with a stomping groove T-Rex would be proud, a filtered glam rock vocal that Ziggy made famous and a brass section that takes you right back to One Way Glass. It’s 3 and half minutes of pure unadulterated 70s indulgence brought up to the modern era. The way that Crofts and co. know how to do so well. A mixture of textures and kaleidoscopic grooves make this single a mind-bending pop song of the trippiest sort.

Andy Croft himself explains what the single about, “Heart and soul is about a girl, a temptress who pulls you in with her looks and spits you out. A girl who reaches into your heart and soul and takes all the good out of you and then moves on to her next victim.”

With the new sound and the album on the horizon 2014 looks to be another storming year for the band.
