Tracks Of The Week, 25.08.14

Oozing ethereal beauty and a majestic sparkle, Laura Doggett’s debut single is a wonderfully enchanting creation. Produced by the highly esteemed SOHN, ‘Phoenix’ is filled with Doggett’s sultry, quivering vocals. stirring melodies and an emotion-strewn crescendo that leads to the powerful refrain “Phoenix gonna rise from the ashes again”.

With a dark beauty and subtle hypnotic power, ‘Phoenix’ proves just what Laura Doggett is capable of, and I can’t wait to hear more.

Following appearances at Glastonbury and Isle Of Wight Festival, Geordie lads – The Din – have just released their new single, ‘Maharajahs’.

Attempting to pigeonhole the track into just one genre is pretty much impossible – fusing together elements of folk, ‘gypsy-rock’, ska and indie, The Din have succeeded in creating something totally unique. ‘Maharajahs’ exudes upbeat melodies – reminiscent of the likes of The Coral –  and smile-inducing, foot-tapping beats that will have you up and dancing in no time.

If, like me, you’re left yearning for the sunny days of festivals, then this track is just what you need: with its dazzlingly bright, upbeat vibes, it is impossible not to enjoy this feel-good slice of summer.

‘Maharajahs’ is out now via Screamin’ Dreamer Records.

Consisting of BAFTA award-winning singer songwriter, Emily Barker, along with with Dom Coyote and multi-instrumentalist Ruben Engzell, Anglo-Swedish collective –  Vena Portae –  have just released their eponymous debut album. And, from hearing its lead single,  it promises to be worth a listen.

‘Summer Kills’ is a romantic, folky ditty filled with the gentle strumming of guitars and jolly brass melodies, easily capable of lulling one into a state of utter calm. As Emily Barker’s Janis Joplin-esque vocals gently caress with smooth, flowing melodies, this is a track that is irresistible in its effervescent charm.

‘Vena Portae’ is out now.

Norwich seven-piece, Wooden Arms, create delicately powerful ballads, fusing together classical instrumentation and indie-inspired beats. Their latest single has currently been receiving acclaim and plenty of airplay from 6 Music, and deservedly so.

‘Tide’ is a captivating track with subtle shades of the likes of Sigur Ros and an affecting, melancholic beauty. Filled with sweeping strings, layered melodies and moving harmonies, this a song that will dazzle you with its twinkling aura.

‘Tide’ is out now, as a double A Side with ‘December’, and is taken from the album of the same name which is out 6th October.
