The bands that will perform at the 2027 edition of Wacken include Five Finger Death Punch, Helloween and Dragonforce.

Kanonenfieber Make Their Debut on the Main Stage

The German blackened heavy metal band Kanonenfieber were announced in the first wave of acts, after the 2026 festival. Instead of a normal festival slot, they will be bringing the full, elaborate production associated with Kanonenfest. Band founder Noise has attended Wacken over ten times so far, making this main-stage booking a dream come true.

The appeal associated with the main stage is universal. Sports teams move from smaller grounds to major stadiums as audiences grow.

Ancient gladiators fought in small camps but moved up to huge arenas designed to hold thousands of spectators. The main-stage atmosphere has also been recreated across entertainment. For Kanonenfieber, bringing the full production to the main stage is a turning point for the band, and the biggest opportunity they have had to date to showcase their music, and possibly a new album.

The Wacken Open Air main stage isn’t just one stage either. It’s an interconnected dual-stage system known as Infield. It’s one of the most iconic stage setups in the world. Two identical stages, known as the Faster Stage and the Harder Stage, operate alternately. When one band plays, the other one sets up. Both stages share the same fenced-off grass, which can hold 85,000 metalheads at one time.

Edguy are Bringing Their Farewell Tour to Wacken 2027

This is a huge return for Tobias Sammet’s band, who have not played together for over a decade. Tobias Sammet is a veteran at Wacken, having played the festival many times through his project Avantasia and Edguy.

The band’s Wacken performance will be one of five exclusive farewell shows. The final run starts on June 25, 2027 with a show in Fulda, Germany. Edguy has been confirmed for MetalFest Open Air and Summer Breeze Open Air 2027. The band is going to play a range of classics at their shows, including hits like Superheroes, King of Fools and Save Me.

Presale for Wacken began on August 2. Like previous years, the festival tickets were made available immediately after the first wave announcement. Wacken 2026 welcomed a sell-out crowd and celebrated its 35th anniversary. Bands included Judas Priest, Def Leppard, In Flames, Powerwolf and Sabaton. The festival hosted the final concert for Running Wild. Sepultura also took to the stage to mark their last performance in Germany.

2026 saw over 200 performances across the different stages. 10,000 bands battled it out from 102 countries to be in for a chance of performing. 31 won the opportunity. Bands are chosen via a jury vote. Chilean band Force came in first, and Sentient Void from the Philippines were the runners-up. The next competition is expected to start in 2027 for the next wave of grassroots bands.
