WATCH: Fazerdaze – ‘Lucky Girl’

‘Lucky Girl’ is the latest single from Fazerdaze (aka Amelia Murray), and it’s taken from her debut album Morningside, which will be released via Flying Nun on the 5th of May. The New Zealander will be making her way over to the UK again for a string of headline shows this summer, including a performance at Brighton’s Great Escape Festival.

Murray has just released a video (via Liberation in France) to accompany ‘Lucky Girl’, and it’s a charming set of visuals that perfectly offset the “sun-drenched melodies and wistful, melancholy undertones” of the track (Gold Flake Paint). The video was shot by Sam Kristofski and edited by Murray herself, who has explained that when she wrote and recorded ‘Lucky Girl’, she was living in a room with no windows except for a skylight, which eventually she had to block out to stop the room from overheating: “It was so dark in there and I slowly began to feel sad, like the walls were closing in on me – that’s how I got the idea for the first lyric.”

Named after the New Zealand suburb where Murray finally feels at home, her debut album Morningside plots its course carefully through the rocky terrain of finding place and peace in personal growth. Morningside will be released via New Zealand label Flying Nun, which has been the home for three decades of heartfelt, literate records produced by determinedly independent musicians.
