Festival Guide: BST Hyde Park

Name: Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Hyde Park

Where: Hyde Park, London

When: 30 June – 9 July

Headliners: Phil Collins, Green Day, The Killers, Justin Bieber, Kings Of Leon, Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers

Also Featuring: Stevie Nicks, Blondie, Elbow, Pixies, Rancid, Tears For Fears, The Stranglers, The Hives and more!

A Brief History: Now a staple of the actual British Summer Time, BST is London’s leading music event, hosting the headliners that other festivals could only dream of. Former headliners include Blur, The Who, Massive Attack, Florence And The Machine and the legendary Carole King performing the whole of Tapestry in full last year.

What We Said Last Year: We enjoyed Florence And The Machine‘s joyous set and were completely blown away by the utterly exceptional Carole King.

How To Get There: TFL, baby.

Gigslutz Top Tip: The majority of the action happens on the main stage, but there are a couple of others hidden away with some newer bands. This year, for example, you should try and catch the likes of Benjamin Booker on 6 July and The Strypes on 8 July. However, we’re probably most excited about catching queen Stevie Nicks supporting Tom Petty on 9 July!

Memorable Moments: The Rolling Stones return to Hyde Park in 2013 was always going to be something special, particularly with Mick Taylor joining them on stage (their original Hyde Park date was his first gig with the band). And, of course, we’ll never forget just how empowering and beautiful it was to see Carole King last year – it was her first UK date in 27 years!

Did You Know? Tom Petty’s headline set on 9 July will mark the band’s 40th anniversary. Plus, FYI- The Stranglers, who will be supporting Green Day on 1 July, supported The Ramones at their first ever London gig…
