LISTEN: BAIT share new single ‘TV Personality’

A wired, restless mix of ominous synths, manic riffs and brooding beats, Southend-based noise outfit BAIT have shared their latest single ‘TV Personality’. Taken from their upcoming debut album SEA CHANGE, which is set for release on 1st April via indie label Cool Thing Records, the track explores the un-nerving nature of having to spend most of your waking moments living through a screen during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Formed of Michael Webster, Luke Branch, Jim Webster and M R E, who also produced the record, BAIT’s creative spark was both extinguished and reignited by the events of 2020. Described as “a digital post-punk lockdown docu-record,” the band’s debut album SEA CHANGE was informed by the experiences and frustrations of living through an international pandemic. Following on from previous singles ‘DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA’ and ‘My Tribe’, ‘TV Personality’ is another observation on this neurotic time, exploring the way we were sucked into a digital world and a seemingly un-ending daily routine that was dominated by the lights of multiple screens.

“The pandemic locked us away and forced us to live life through a screen. We each became a TV personality, broadcasting from the rabbit hole for work, study & play,” Michael comments. His sardonic vocals dominate the track, ricocheting between exasperation and apathy, trying to make sense of a unique and bewildering time.
