New Track: Douglas Dare – ‘Oh Father’

Following up from the success of his 2014 debut album Whelm, London-based singer-songwriter and pianist Douglas Dare has announced that this October will bring with it the promise of his second album, Aforger.

And if recently released track ‘Oh Father’ and accompanying video (impressively shot in Berlin in one continuous take and certainly worth a watch) is any indication of what to expect, we’re in for a treat.

Sonically richer than ever and with a sombre yet stirring autobiographical twist that details his own coming out, Dare professes “[‘Oh Father’] is certainly the most personal song I’ve put out into the world and the subject is a sensitive one… the lyrics are quite purposefully unambiguous and direct”.

The track harks of both Rufus Wainwright and James Blake whilst still succeeding to retain a new and distinctive feel. Dappled with the softly urgent propulsion of piano chords and harmonised choirs of echoing vocals – I dare you (sorry) not to be moved by Douglas Dare.

Aforger is out 14 October via Erased Tape Records.
