New Track: Jordan Mackampa – ‘Midnight’

An old head on young shoulders, Jordan Mackampa once again delights on new single ‘Midnight’.

Having generated quite a buzz with previous release ‘Open Arms’, Mackampa – who hails from the Democratic Republic of Congo and grew up between London and Coventry – continues to showcase the versatility of his songwriting on his latest offering.

Starting as an intimate acoustic delicacy; ‘Midnight’ threatens to be a gorgeous folk tune, teasing us into wanting to hear more of his music stripped back to the simplest of elements.

But gradually the song builds, adding layers upon layers, and by the end the acoustic guitar is barely audible, having given way to a masterclass in rueful pop euphoria.

Mackampa’s soothing, soulful vocals remain constant throughout, while his contemplative lyrics display a charming storytelling ability.

Currently in the midst of a UK tour, this old head is definitely worthy of the buzz.

‘Midnight’ is taken from Jordan Mackampa’s forthcoming EP ‘Physics’, which is released on 30 September.
