If you’re a fan of all the aforementioned plus The Who, Madness, Steve Winwood, Nick Heyward, David Bowie, Frank Sinatra, the Blue Note label you’ll have no doubt seen the eye catching formidable work of Simon Halfon. Simple yet striking, Halfon has forged his career on making the music of its makers stand out and become as memorable as the music it self.
From the write up on the Kickstarter pages it says this about the author and book:
‘For the first time, Simon’s body of work will be collated into a premium book, celebrating the best of his record sleeves, design work and photography. Packed with history, artist’s proofs, anecdotes, sketches and personal notes, this beautifully designed book will showcase this very personal journey.
As well as beautifully reproduced record sleeves, the book will feature never before seen photographs and personal ephemera, alongside anecdotes and recollections that tell the stories behind the artwork and the friendships. This book will also take a side-step into the fascinating world of film making.
It’s a journey that began at Stiff Records back in 1980, where with no formal training Simon ended up in their art department, before moving on to work for Neville Brody up at The Face magazine offices. Since that time Simon has worked alongside many of the great artists and photographers, from Peter Blake to David Bailey.
The book itself is the size of an LP, making it a unique and original addition to any collector’s shelf. The Deluxe Edition will be signed and numbered from 101-1000 and come with a sewn hardback cover and silk ribbon marker. It will have 250 plus full-colour pages printed on thick 200gsm satin finish with a protective acrylic coating.
The slipcased Super Deluxe Edition book will be limited to 100 copies, signed and numbered from 1–100 and presented in a supreme-quality black slipcase with a coloured paper interior. This edition will contain a signed and numbered photographic print of either The Style Council or Oasis.
The books will be produced by an award-winning Italian printer, specialising in high-end publications, with strong eco credentials, full FSC certification, and a print process that uses 100% clean energy. Their clients include the world’s biggest publishers, as well as art galleries and museums worldwide.’
