Ones To Watch: The Jackobins

No-one deserves to sign on the dotted line more than Liverpool’s The Jackobins. Creative, anthemic and polished, they’re the Rolls-Royce of the unsigned scene.

The Jackobins are a five-piece made up of Dominic Bassnett (Lead Vocals), Veso Mihaylov (Lead Guitar), Chris Marriott (Bass), John Whittingham (Keys) and Marc Terry (Drums). They’re widely considered to be one of the breakthrough bands of 2015. The band ended 2014 with a bang, releasing their debut EP Ghosts, which brought along a sell-out launch night at Liverpool’s East Village Arts Club and a UK-wide EP tour which included several sell-out dates; an impressive feat for a self-funded band. Their sound is best described as a “large, anthemic sound with dark undertones and pop-like choruses.”

Ghosts has received widespread praise from music media, but the band has found it difficult to make the next step without label backing. The EP itself was carefully crafted and features 4 tracks: their latest release The Otherside, the radio friendly sound of She Always Says, the dark, anti-war track Prussia and title track and all-round stand-out ‘Ghosts’.

Aside from their music, The Jackobins have also been part of the campaign to save Liverpool’s Princes Studios, which they currently use themselves as a rehearsal space. They’ve joined former Zuton and current Noel Gallagher bassist Russ Pritchard, The Coral’s James Skelly and several other local music personalities and bands in fighting to keep the music hub from being sold to developers. This passion and drive for music has fuelled them, helping their sound and live performance grow, culminating in the must-see live band they are today.

The Jackobins return to Liverpool’s East Village Arts Club on March 28th, following the release of their new video for The Otherside‘.

Ghosts is available from the band’s Soundcloud and iTunes.
