WATCH: Raven Maguire shares visuals for ‘Free At Last’

Female rappers from the North West are relatively under represented in the UK Hip Hop scene, but there is one lady looking to change all that. Liverpool resident Raven Maguire is that very person and the up & coming rapper has shared the video for her latest track ‘Free At Last’ alongside vocalist Abby Melia.

In a project funded by The Arts Council, young music artists from Liverpool, including Maguire, worked with singer-songwriter KOF, URBEATZ and Special Guest Facilitators, on an explorative lyrics and music project that looked at the historical Martin Luther King “I Have A Dream” Speech, exploring its meaning, its impact and its relevance today. The participants wrote lyrics, based on the theme and recorded and performed the pieces.

Maguire’s offering sees her rapping over a hypnotic classic Hip Hop beat and discussing such sensitive topics as discrimination and the armed forces with lyrics such as “The bank of justice isn’t bankrupt but, the system we live in is corrupt / soldiers lay down your weapons, erupt / refuse to fight a useless war / do you even know what you’re dieing for / cos I’m sure that your children need you more”. The track is a deep and thought provoking piece and with the provocative imagery used, it certainly makes you question the way we live our lives.

We are definitely looking forward to seeing what else this talented Hip Hop newcomer will offer but in the meantime, check out the video for the track below and let us know what you think via @Gigslutz_
