EP: Echo Raptors – ‘Turn Into One’

It’s funny, isn’t it, how we keep getting told that there aren’t any guitar bands making catchy music anymore? Echo Raptors are proof that’s complete bollocks with new EP Turn Into One.

On title-track ‘Turn Into One’ and the closing tune ‘Wake Up’, the Belfast four-piece display plenty of charm and a keen ear for melody, reminiscent of much ’90s indie.

But thankfully Echo Raptors are much more than that, and shine brightest on opening tack ‘Edge of the Earth’. The charm and melody are still in abundance, but there is less innocence and it is instead matched by a swagger in the music and a grit in frontman Philip Rainey’s vocals.

It’s the sound of a band somewhat pissed off, slightly disillusioned, but ready to hit back. It suits them.

Turn Into One, the new EP from Echo Raptors, is out 23 July.

Catch Echo Raptors live at Shiiine On Weekender, 11- 14 November.
