New Track: Clay – ‘Stay Calm’

Sometimes it is too easy to over-complicate pop music. And it is certainly too easy to sneer at pop music. Often it is forgotten that first and foremost its primary purpose is to sound catchy and make you want to move. And on that front, Clay undoubtedly deliver with ‘Stay Calm’.

That’s not to say ‘Stay Calm’ is simplistic. The Leeds four piece are clearly musicians striving to hone their craft, and as a result have produced a cacophony of infectious synthesisers and drum beats, interspersed with seamlessly harmonious guitar riffs.

Polished off by Joe Harvey’s fetching vocal hook, Clay’s new single is relentless in its ambition to please, and continues in the same vein as debut offering ‘Sun Dance’.

In the relatively short space of time they have been together, the band have already attracted support from the likes of Zane Lowe and Huw Stephens, and will continue to gather momentum with their tour of the UK this month.
