Brand new, state of the art, music venue to open in Central London

In a troubling time for live music fans across the capital – which continues to see more closures of legendary grassroots music venues – a state of the art building developed specifically for LCCM (London College of Creative Media) called ‘The Music Box’ will become home to their brand new music venue. This new venue in SE1 will be dedicated to hosting gigs and performances by up-and-coming artists and students as well as hosting exclusive masterclasses from passing musical legends. The building itself is set to offer a truly impressive and inspiring space across six floors to study, create, perform, record and collaborate.

This new building (due to open its doors this September) combines inspirational architecture and outstanding interiors to create a unique new landmark for Southwark.

It’s no wonder LCCM are taking this bold step as they have a huge pedigree in music – with students being taught by tutors who have experience working alongside a diverse range of artists such as Paloma Faith, Sting, Tinchy Stryder, Van Morrison, Ian Dury, Ray Charles, Paul Weller, Tom Jones and many more. LCCM alumni have, as a result, gone on to sign recording and publishing deals with Island Records, Sony, Relentless and Decca.

In most recent times, you can find LCCM graduates performing with Jess Glynne, George Ezra, Labrinth and Kiko Bun. Up-and-coming acts such as Tom Walker, Whilk and Misky, Chiara Hunter and Husky Loops are also artists that have come through the doors of LCCM.

Breaking away from standardised, regimented and infuriatingly inflexible courses, LCCM is bringing a more creative attitude to crafting the careers of young, creative minds. By stretching their remit to include more creative fields than ever – and by moving into a brand new, state of the art building with plenty of top quality facilities – the higher education institute aims to give students a free-flowing, expansive education that doesn’t just play by the rules.

Now, more than ever before, a wider range of subjects will be on offer for students who will be able to pick and choose exactly what they study so that they can get the most out of their time at LCCM. Following a rebrand (having previously been named London College of Contemporary Music) the college has expanded into fields such as creative writing, digital product development and music industry management while retaining its pre-existing range of highly-acclaimed music courses.

LCCM Principal Darius Khwaja explains: “In 2012 higher education in the UK saw profound changes to how it was funded. This was felt most acutely by undergraduates looking to study arts, social sciences and humanities. As a result, students and parents are right to ask what they are getting for their money. At LCCM we make sure our students an industry-relevant, academic education that retains its value throughout every stage of their careers.”

LCCM is the UK’s only specialist independent higher education college for creative people offering industry-led degrees in music, words, code and creative entrepreneurship. For more visit www.lccm.org.uk
